Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a naturally occurring 28–amino-acid polypeptide associated with immune regulation and is one of the components found within Thymosin Fraction 5, a crude extract derived from the thymus gland. Research has explored its potential role in supporting T-cell development, enhancing immune responsiveness, and modulating defenses against infectious or inflammatory challenges.
A synthetic form of Thymosin Alpha-1, known as Thymalfasin, has also been developed and studied; it mirrors the native peptide’s structure and is produced from the larger 113–amino-acid precursor protein Prothymosin Alpha. Both forms have been investigated for their potential to restore or augment key immune functions under controlled experimental conditions.
